A geiger counter detects nuclear radiation by measuring the emission of ionizing radiation of alpha particles, beta particles and gamma rays. Also referred to as a radiation detector, a geiger counter consists of two main elements: the processing electronics and the geiger tube. The geiger tube is filled with low-pressure inert gas like helium, argon or neon. If radioactive radiation occurs, the inert gas is ionized. An anode within the geiger tube registers the quantity of ionized particles numerically correlating with the strength of the radioactive radiation. The radioactivity measurement is then displayed on the LCD screen of the geiger counter or radiation detector.It is very important to measure radioactivity as well as to classify radioactivity values. For example, terrestrial gamma radiation is measured according to general values from 0.03 - 0.3 µSv/h (microsievert / hour). This "normal" oscillation range is conditioned by natural radioactive elements in the ground such as uranium and potassium. To calculate this factor, one must take into consideration cosmic radiation. For example, when considering cosmic radiation, the maximum radioactivity content at Schneefernerhaus, the highest-located German environmental research station, is approximately equal to 110 µSv/h.At PCE Instruments, you will find three types of geiger counter or raditation detection devices to help you measure radioactivity: 1) alpha radioactivity meters, 2) meters for detecting alpha, beta and gamma radioactivity and 3) radioactivity meters for human beings.

The Model N300M is a microprocessor-controlled analyzer used to determine the concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) in a sample gas. The analysis method is based on the Beer-Lambert law.The N300M uses Gas Filter Correlation (GFC) to overcome the interfering effects of various other gases (such as water vapor) that also absorb IR. The analyzer passes the IR beam through a spinning wheel made up of two separate chambers: one containing a high concentration of CO known as the reference, and the other containing a neutral gas known as the measure. The concentration of CO in the sample chamber is computed by taking the ratio of the instantaneous measure and reference values and then compensating the ratio for sample temperature and pressure.

The Model T360M CO2 analyzer measures Carbon Dioxide by comparing infrared energy absorbed by a sample to that absorbed by a reference gas according to the Beer-Lambert law. Using a Gas Filter Correlation Wheel, a high-energy IR light source is alternately passed through a CO2 filled chamber and a chamber with no CO2 present. The light path then travels through the sample cell, which has a folded path of 1.28 meters.The energy loss through the sample cell is compared with the reference signal provided by the filter wheel to produce a signal proportional to concentration, with little effect from interfering gases within the sample. This category of products comprises the range of instruments utilized to evaluate construction material strength. The range of instruments is typically considered to be two parts. The first are non-destructive field tests of compressive strength. The second are tensile field tester systems to either determine the tensile strength of an overlay or bond material, or tensile strength of anchors embedded in the concrete. The first group is pure Non-Destructive Testing where the strength of the material is determined by correlation to another parameter more easily available and readily apparent. This is typically the hardness of the concrete or the resistance to penetration by either a pin or probe. The Windsor Probe, Windsor Pin and our line of Rebound Hammers all fall within this category. These are widely used standard tests and as such have seen use throughout the world.
