The FMC431 is a dual 1 Gigabit Ethernet FPGA Mezzanine Card with two RJ45 connectors available on the front panel. Compliant with the VITA 57.1 standard the FMC431 offers a High Pin Count connector but is compatible with FPGA carrier cards with Low Pin Count connectors. The Ethernet interface (1000BASE-T) is either implemented using RGMII (Low Pin Count compatible) or SGMII (High Pin Count compatible). The FMC431 also offers the option to stack an additional FMC over it. Any of the 4DSP FMC that use LVDS and single ended signaling only can be mounted over the FMC431, thus offering users with the ability to build a complete data acquisition, waveform generation and communication solution while using a single FMC site on an FPGA carrier card. The FMC431 is an ideal solution to bring Ethernet connectivity to an FPGA based system and ensure reliable external communication.

The 16-bit input data for each channel is provided through SPI from the FPGA on the FMC carrier board. A single-ended TTL level trigger output is provided from the FPGA.

By default this card only uses signals from the LPC rows of the HPC connector that is mounted. The gain can be set by software in three steps: +/-50mV, +/-0.5mV, and +/-5V. AN advanced offset circuit is used in the front-end design of the ADC board, and allows a voltage shift in the range og +/-5V that is independent of the chosen gain range.

The SMT700 is one of the first of a new range of Sundance cards that includes a direct connection to SLB (Sundance Local Bus) compatible mezzanine card, without the need for a Sundance TIM. This enables a variety of cards to be added to a system, for example extra Ethernet ports, video in/out, High speed ADC / DAC etc. Data from these extra cards (along with data from the SMT700’s own inputs – up to 1Gb/s Ethernet, 2.5Gb/s optical links, and RSL links) can be processed via the Virtex 5, or by another linked card or module.
