Power Management Analyzer Suites
While most PSE ports are part of multi-port PSE, behaviors of such systems of PSE ports are beyond the scope of IEEE 802.3 specifications. Sifos offers two fully automated analyzer suites that uniquely characterize PSE port administration and power management behaviors including PD admittance policies, PSE capacity management, LLDP policies, and powering stability. Each of these suites are built upon Live PD Emulation, a feature that enables each test port to independently and continuously emulate user-described PD’s.

LLDP Emulation
The IEEE 802.3 specifications require that Type 2, Type 3, and Type 4 PDs implement PoE LLDP and use the Power via MDI TLV for power negotiation. This requirement therefore applies to any PD that draws more than 13 watts. The PDA-600 family includes an option to flexibly emulate any PSE while capturing and analyzing the LLDP power negotiation protocol from a PD.

Rapid PSE And Chained Data Test Of 4-Pair And 2-Pair PSE's
The optional PSL-3424-QT feature license opens up two important productivity tools in the PSL-3424 platform. PSL-3424 Quick Test is a fully automated PSE functional test covering between 2 and 8 PSE ports in a test cycle with average test times on the order of 10 seconds per port tested. The Chained Data Test user interface allows rapid construction and verification of test setups used in “snaked data path” testing of PSE’s with user specified loads and optional LLDP power negotiation on each test port.

LLDP Emulation And Analysis
The optional LLDP Emulation feature allows a PSA-3000, PSL-3424L, or PSL-3000 test port to behave just like an 802.3at or 802.3bt PD that uses LLDP to convey its power demands. 802.3 PoE LLDP is a special variant of LLDP protocol that involves handshakes and protocol timing between a PSE and a PD.
