Tunable Edge Filters
-
Tunable edge filter is a customized product. It usually belongs to 2-port optical tunable filter product platform. Instead of using narrow bandpass filter in the 2-port tunable optical filter, the tunable edge filter utilizes a low-pass or long-pass interference filter. By changing the incident angle of the light beam, the cut-off wavelength will be tuned. Standard Tunable edge filters support C-band or L-band wavelength range.

10G DPSK Demodulator
-
Optoplex’s Optical DPSK Demodulator, also known as Delay Line Interferometer (DLI), converts phase modulation to amplitude modulation over the entire C+L band in support of data transmission rates of 2.5,10 or 40 Gb/s. The DPSK demodulator is designed for phase modulated optical communication systemsutilized in commercial, defense and space exploration markets. The device plays a key role in improvingsignal quality and performance to meet the expanding demand for higher data rates and more complextransmission formats within current and next generation systems without major capital expenditure.Optoplex’s DPSK Demodulator is based on a patented free-space optical design, which is compact, athermal and polarization-independent. The measured frequency drift over temperature is only ~0.02 GHz/°C for our standard passive device. Further, this DPSK Demodulator exhibits a total polarization-dependent phase shift of less than 2 degrees over the entire operating temperature range with a high extinction ratio. Optoplex’s DPSK Demodulators can be configured to be fully tunable, colorless tunable or purely passive. Dual-Rate DPSK Demodulator is also available.

90-Degree Optical Hybrid
-
Six-port hybrid devices have been used for microwave and millimeter-wave detection systems since the mid-1990s and are a key component for coherent receivers. In principle, the six-port device consists of linear dividers and combiners interconnected in such a way that four different vectorial additions of a reference signal (LO) and the signal to be detected are obtained. The levels of the four output signals are detected by balanced receivers. By applying suitable baseband signal processing algorithms, the amplitude and phase of the unknown signal can be determined.

40Gb/s Coherent Receiver
-
The integrated 40-Gb/s DP-QPSK receiver incorporates two 90° optical hybrids with four pairs of balanced photodetector (PD) and four linear TIAs into a single butterfly package. Unlike other technologies in which the polarization beam splitter (PBS) and/or the power splitter (BS) are not included, Optoplex’s receiver includes both of them with the optical hybrids, PDs and the TIAs to offer a fully integrated solution which will benefit users in terms of completely removing fiber routing and the skew management. The integrated receivers work at the symbol rate up to 12.8GBaud/s.

40Gb/s DPSK Receivers
-
Targeting for the next-generation 40Gb/s system based on advanced optical differential phase shift keying (DPSK) demodulation, Optoplex’s 40Gb/s Integrated DPSK Receiver (DPSK Rx) demodulates an incoming DPSK optical signal into a pair of differentially (amplitude) modulated RF outputs at data rate up to 43Gb/s in a compact package. Phase modulated optical signals offer much better dispersion performance compared with traditional amplitude modulated counterparts because the carrier light stays on all the time so that the intensity-dependent nonlinear effects in the transmission link are avoided, resulting in longer transmission distances.

Optical Performance Monitor
-
Optoplex Optical performance monitor (OPM) uses proprietary thin-film interference filter technology combined with a micro-actuator and high-speed electronics. Optical performance monitor is used to measure critical information data on optical transmission signals in DWDM networks for monitoring signal dynamics, determining system functionality, identifying performance change, and providing feedback for controlling network elements so as to optimize operational performance. In particular, Optoplex Optical performance monitor can automatically scan the C-, L- or C+L-band wavelength range and precisely measure channel wavelength and power. See the following schematic diagram for OPM working principle.

3-Port ROADM / TOADM
-
Optoplex's Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) module, also known as Tunable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (TOADM), is based on a proprietary micro-optics and micro-actuator design, athermal packaging technology, and state-of-the-art thin-film coating. When receiving a stream of optical signals of a plurality of wavelengths from the Input-Port (IN), this 3-port ROADM device directs a selected channel to the Drop-Port (ADD/DROP) and the remaining channels to the Express-Port (EXP), as depicted in the figure below. This tunable feature can also be used for adding a channel, when the device is used in reverse. Cascading two ROADM modules, simultaneous add and drop functions can be achieved. Each single ROADM device is optimized to cover either C- or L-band wavelengths. The standard 100- or 200-GHz channel spacing ROADM products allow for single-channel drop. Customized banded-channel drop ROADMs are available upon request.

Standard Optical Interleaver
-
An innovative technique for expanding the number of channels per fiber involves an optical device, called an optical interleaver. For example, in most DWDM equipment, the standard channel spacing is 100 GHz. But spacing the signal-carrying frequencies every 50 or even 25 GHz can double or even quadruple the number of channels per fiber. This job is accomplished by an optical interleaver. Such a device takes two multiplexed signals with 100-GHz spacing and interleaves them, creating a DWDM signal with channels spaced 50 GHz apart. The process can be repeated, creating even denser composite signals with 25-GHz or 12.5-GHz spacing. The signals at the receiving end are recovered with the same devices used as splitters or optical de-interleavers. Thus, devices and/or networks can be upgraded without requiring that all devices be upgraded, or network bandwidth can be increased.

2-Port Optical Tunable Filter
-
Optoplex's Tunable Optical Filter, also known as Optical Tunable Filter or Tunable Bandpass Filter, is an integrated module, consisting of micro optics and electronics. When receiving a stream of optical signals of a plurality of wavelengths from the Input-Port (IN), the 2-port tunable optical filter directs a selected channel to the Output-Port (OUT). The selected channel can be varied (tuned) within the operating wavelength (frequency) range by a remote command sent through the built-in control PCB and firmware.

2x8 QPSK Mixer
-
To be used for optical coherent detection such as DP-QPSK receivers, Optoplex’s ten-port 2x8 Coherent Mixer (aka QPSK mixer) combines the incoming signal with a local oscillator to generate eight light states in the complex-field space. The eight light output signals can then be coupled into four pairs of balanced detectors. The block diagram below shows the application of a 2x8 coherent mixer in a DP-QPSK receiver. Since the mixing process is data rate independent, the devices can be used for any data rate in applications such as 40Gb/s or 100Gb/s transmission systems.
