Calibration
During the recent years we have made scientific investigations regarding calibration procedures, which have been published and integrated in the European and International standards. The calibration of antennas and field probes in Seibersdorf is done on the reference open area test site, in three different TEM-Cells and in the fully anechoic chamber. The open area test site is one of the best in Europe. Since 1996 we are the accredited calibration laboratory according to Akkreditierung Austria 0612 for antennas and field probes.

Automotive EMC Testing
Having been assessed by Ford Detroit’s EMC expert, we are Australia’s only Ford (and NATA) accredited automotive EMC test laboratory. Others have tried, but none have succeeded. Ford does not accept reports from EMC labs that are not on the Ford list of accredited labs. The scope ranges from component to complete vehicle level EMC testing for Australian and overseas manufacturers. We also have a fully dedicated CISPR 25 Electronic Sub Assembly (ESA) chamber, another large CISPR 25 anechoic chamber for vehicle testing or susceptibility levels in excess of 500V/m. We possess a vast array of specific automotive EMC test equipment such as BCI’s, tri-plate’s, and striplines for susceptibility and emissions testing to meet the most stringent automotive EMC requirements. Our Australian and overseas customers use our labs because they know that our reports will be accepted and will not be questioned.

N4L’s IEC61000-4-15 calibration procedure is particularly noteworthy as it covers the entire test protocol detailed in Annex C of IEC61000-4-15. It is commonplace for specific parameters within IEC61000-4-15 (d parameters are frequently omitted from calibration procedures) to remain untested during typical flicker calibration due to the difficulty in providing trace-ability for such measurements. It has essential equipment needed for radiated and conducted EMI emissions measurements. The system includes a spectrum analyzer, antennas, near field probes, a preamplifier, LISN and a non conductive antenna tripod. Pre-compliance testing in EMC is a commonly used term not easy to define. In general, it implies testing done prior to formal testing for legal compliance. Formal legal compliance is performed at a facility designed and equipped with test instrumentation that is fully compliant with the applicable EMC standards. Such facility and instrumentation is capital intensive and can be expensive even to rent and not easily available. Compliance testing is performed per exacting requirements of the Standards and other reference documents adhering to the test methods and last detail. In addition, the test facility may require to be accredited by an accreditation body such as NVLAP, A2LA. Often it is desirable to know prior to compliance testing at such facility, whether a product is close to compliance and also how close. Pre-compliance testing is specially useful for specifications such as FCC, Part 15, EN 55022 or EN 55011 (CISPR 22 or CISPR11). Pre-compliance testing usually means using the full compliance methods but making a few educated compromises in use of site or equipment to reduce costs and testing time.
