A loop tester which is used to test the safety of electrical systems. These device measures the impedance of the short-circuit loop between the outer conductors of a circuit, whereby the probable short-circuit current is calculated. The protection of the circuit (miniature circuit breaker) must therefore trigger at a lower current than the expected short-circuit current, in order to avoid excessive heating of the lines and thus a fire risk. The IIB-1553-VXI-4C is an intelligent interface card which provides 4 independent channels for full MIL-STD-1553 test, simulation and bus analysis functions on the VXI bus. All 1553A, 1553B, McAir and STANAG 3838 variants are supported. Each independent channel may be operated as a concurrent Bus Controller (BC) and up to 31 Remote Terminals (RT) with a windowed Bus Monitor (BM), or as a stand-alone Chronological Bus Monitor (CBM) with comprehensive multi-level triggering capability. Full error injection capability is provided in BC and RT modes, with full error detection in BC, RT, BM and CBM modes. Each channel provides a variable amplitude dual redundant 1553 interface, with 2 Mbytes of dual ported RAM. The board is supplied with C drivers in source code and Windows menu driven software as standard.

Biomagnetic Devices
Electrical measurements of physiological potentials are well established in clinical diagnostics. The flow of an electrical current creates a corresponding magnetic field. Thus bioelectric activity will generate biomagnetic fields. These fields can be detected with Tristan SQUID magnetometers. For many of the classical electrical techniques such as ECG and EEG, there are corresponding magnetic techniques (magnetocardiography or MCG and magnetoencephalography or MEG). In some cases (magnetopneumography, hepatic iron store measurements, intestinal ischemia, peripheral nerve and muscle activity), there is no corresponding electrical technique and biomagnetic measurements offer unique measurement capabilities. Unlike CT or MRI imaging which yield structural information, biomagnetic measurements offer real-time functional imaging.
