EL Testing for Si Solar Cells using High Performance CCD. The determination of luminescence (photo emissions) in solar cells is an important characterization tool. Typical solar cells often have defects which limit the efficiency or lifetime of a cell. Many of these defects are visualized with Luminescence Imaging. By using this technique, the manufacturing process can be optimized to produce better cells. Luminescence Imaging takes advantage of the radiative inter-band recombination of excited charge carriers in solar cells. The emitted photons can be captured with a sensitive CCD camera to obtain an image of the distribution of the radiative recombination in the cell. This distribution is determined by the local excitation level, allowing the detection of electrical losses, thus mapping the diffusion length of minority carriers as the emitted light is low intensity and in the near infra-red range, the CCD camera has a high sensitivity wavelength from 900 to 1100 nm with little thermal noise. This CCD camera provides excellent resolution of 1024 x 1024 pixels with a large 1μm pixel size, multi-megahertz readout speed, and robust USB 2.0 connectivity. The LBM Series (Load Button) load cells are offered for compression only applications where space is limited. This load button is a direct replacement for many of the same type and bolt patterns currently used in the industry. The matching surface must be flat and at least 2 inches in diameter. The loading diameter is slightly convex for accurate load distribution. Eight threaded mounting holes are provided on the bottom surface for fastening down from beneath. These sensors are manufactured from heat treated 17-4ph stainless steel, and the sensing element incorporates bonded foil strain gages of the highest quality. They are sealed for protection against most industrial environments.

The DPM-3 is a smart Plug & Play TEDS IEEE 1451.4 compliant Digital Panel Mount Load Cell meter. Just plug in a TEDS compatible Load Cell or Torque Sensor and the DPM-3 will automatically self-calibrate. When used with a non-TEDS Load Cell or Torque Sensor, the DPM-3 can be set up by simple front panel push buttons. The DPM-3 can be scaled to a full 5 digit display from 0 to 99,999 counts to read directly in engineering units such as grams, ounces, pounds, etc. The DPM-3 samples 60 readings per second (50 for 50Hz operation) for fast control response and true peak/valley reading capability. The meter has an adaptive digital filter that can automatically select the best time constant for minimum noise, yet respond rapidly to an actual change in signal level. The peak and valley values can be displayed by a push of a button on the front panel. Auto-tare allows the meter to be set to zero for any input signal level. Available options include dual relays, analog output, serial communications, and low voltage power supply.
