Solar blind UV cameras are imaging devices optimized to detect ultraviolet light of wavelengths below about 280nm. Such cameras are insensitive against sunlight due to negligible sensitivity to visible and long wavelength UV light. Solar blind UV cameras are used in a series of applications like corona detection, fire detection, combustion analysis, plasma research, testing UV lamps, etc. However, highly sensitive corona detection is the main mass application and these devices are of crucial importance in electric power industry. These imaging devices enable easy detection of degraded insulators of high voltage transmission lines, distributions and substations. They can see the emission of UV light when discharges occur at defect insulators. From design point of view solar blind UV cameras are actually bispectral imaging systems built by combining true UV camera with typical visible camera. These bispectral imaging system generate output image as overlay of typical visible image with UV image of analyzed UV source.

The Model T100U Trace-level SO2 analyzer has been developed specifically to address the challenges of low level monitoring as required, for example, in the US NCore network. It uses the proven UV fluorescence principle, and is designed to allow ultra-sensitive SO2 measurements while still meeting the requirements for use as a US EPA compliance analyzer.The analyzer uses both the light and dark phases of the pulsed UV light source to continuously detect and correct for electronic noise, giving exceptionally stable and sensitive performance. A separate UV detector allows the instrument to continuously correct for variations in lamp intensity. Exceptional stability is achieved with the use of an optical shutter to compensate for PMT drift, and a reference detector to correct for changes in UV lamp intensity. A hydrocarbon "kicker" and advanced optical design combine to prevent inaccuracies due to interferents.

Thorlabs' LLD1530 Frequency-Locked Laser is a narrow linewidth, DFB-laser-diode-based, turnkey system with a vacuum emission wavelength of 1532.8323 nm and a high SMSR of at least 35 dB. The laser frequency is actively stabilized to a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)-traceable molecular transition of acetylene and has an absolute accuracy at start-up that is better than ±25 MHz. The sglux UV-Index sensors measure the UVI with a worldwide unique low measurement uncertainty of less than 5 %. This makes our sensors compliant to the highest measurement precisions class one according the DIN/EN 5031-11, chapter 8. Since 2018 our product UV-Cosine_UVI (ERYCA) is appointed for public authority tasks: The German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) services 27 measurement points in Germany for public information of the daily UV-Index. Twenty of these points (Andernach, Chieming, Duderstadt, Fichtelberg, Genthin, Giessen-Wettenberg, Schauenburg-Kassel, Langen, Lueneburg, Munchen-Neuherberg, Norderney, Belm/Osnabrueck, Schauinsland, Tholey, Todendorf, Waldhof-Falkenstein, Waldmuenchen, Wurmberg, Zingst and Zirchow) use the sglux ERYCA to obtain the local UV-Index value. In 2017 ARPANSA (Australian Government’s primary authority on radiation protection and nuclear safety) began replacing the existing biometers with SiC photodiode UV sensors (sglux ERYCA) at all network sites. There are currently thirteen measurement sites in Australia that have been upgraded to the new sensors.
