Monochromator Gratings - Type IV
HORIBA Scientific produces a wide range of holographic master gratings from which high precision replicas are manufactured.Using Type IV aberration-corrected monochromator gratings, a single concave grating disperses, collimates, and refocuses the light from the entrance slit onto the exit slit. Wavelength scanning is obtained through a simple rotation of the grating.The groove spacing of these gratings is computer-optimized to produce high quality images with a minimum of astigmatism and coma, even at large numerical apertures. Compared with Czerny-Turner monochromators (equipped with one plane grating, one collimating mirror and one focusing mirror), Type IV aberration-corrected monochromator gratings provide much better light collection efficiency and signal-to-noise ratio.

Active Monopole Antenna

The 41 inch Monopole antenna is required for making electric field emission measurements below 60 MHz per Military standards (MIL-STD-461) and FAA (DO-160) specifications. This antenna is for emissions measurements only. It cannot be used for transmitting. The Active Monopole antenna is generally used in a shielded room or in a screen room, with the equipment under test (EUT) placed on a metal ground plane. The 41 inch rod and the ground plane behave electrically as though a mirror image of the rod were located below the ground, and the ground removed. Since the stainless steel plate does not have enough surface area to mirror the entire 41 inch rod, it is bonded to the surrounding ground plane during use. The AM-741 is battery powered to prevent measurement errors that maybe caused by external power cables. The ANSI equivalent capacitance substitution (ECSM) method is the recommended method for calibrating AM-741 monopole antenna. The individual calibration data will be included with each antenna.

Galvo-Resonant Scan Head and Controller
Our LSK-GR08(/M) Galvo-Resonant Scanner contains one resonant scan mirror and one galvo scan mirror that deflect an incident laser beam in X and Y, respectively. For more than 40 years, Thales has delivered high accuracy optics for ground-based Astronomy all around the world. These optics range from single, but challenging, unmounted optical components up to fully integrated opto-mechanical systems. Our design heritage and past experience in this field cover the design, manufacture and AIT activities of many optics and sub-assemblies used in Telescope instrumentation, such as focal plane assemblies as well as the direct production of telescope mirrors themselves. Several major achievements of Thales ground-based Astronomy products were the Optical wide field corrector for the Dark Energy Survey (lien), the Reference Body for future Deformable Secondary Mirror of the VLT (lien) and different challenging spectrograph optics (Collimator and Cameras) for different Observatories (lien). One advantage Thales has with this activity is that most part of the manufacturing steps involved (i.e. opto-mechanical design, milling/grinding, lightening, polishing and coating) are directly under our control in our own facility. Our current capabilities for the production of optics for ground-based Astronomy are from a few centimeters size up to 2 meters. Thanks to the continuous efforts in R& D and investments into new production machines, Thales is now ready for future industrial challenges including the optical production of some key elements of the E-ELT, GMT and TMT programs.
