Automated Stand for Magnetic Luminescent Control of Railway Wheels
The amount of information processed and time constraints required the creation of a multi-level distributed image processing system based on National Instruments Compact Vision System controllers, industrial computers and workstations. During the control process, the wheel is watered with a magnetic-luminescent emulsion, magnetized and exposed to ultraviolet radiation. As a result, the emulsion deposited on the defects glows in the visible range (yellow-green light). Eleven FireWire (IEEE 1394) color cameras with a resolution of 1280 x 1024 are used to scan the wheel surface. In one iteration, they completely cover a 20-degree sector of the wheel.

The CS-3A Cell Stand is adopted with CHI series Electrochemical Analyzers and other apparatus directly. The cell is enclosed in a Faraday cage to reduce electrical interference. A built-in gas control allows purging a sample. Gas line is provided to purge next sample, while analyzing the present sample separately, thus increasing productivity. Magnetic stirrer allows for controlling the mixing of the sample for experiments requiring mass transport of electrolyte or analyte to the electrode surface. The 16454A is designed for accurate permeability measurements of toroidal-shaped magnetic materials. Since the construction of this fixture creates one turn around the toroid (with no magnetic flux leakage), the need of winding a wire around the toroid is unnecessary. When the E4991A/4291B with option 002 is used as the measurement instrument, direct readouts of complex permeability are possible.
